Message I would (generally speaking) steer away from looking at the turbo's specs alone (wheel size, comp. housing, exh. housing, # blades, blade trim, etc.) to determine how well a particular turbo will perform. What I found as a better tool is to plot your engine specs on the turbine and compressor maps.

I looked at 3 turbos from Garrett: the GT25R, the GT28R, and the GT28RS. Believe it or not, the only one that I liked the way the plot points looked on was the GT28RS (which is what many of the vendors base their "big turbos" on). The efficiency range wasn't where it needed to be on the other 2 when plotting for our engine. I considered buying a set of the GT28RS, but the extra work of custom plumbing and fitting combined with the way I knew they would lag ended up landing the idea in the "projects that could have been" pile.

I decided in the end that I'd rather have reliable, proven, pump-gas power instead so I opted for JWT Sport 500's. If I had it to do again I would probably choose Chip's GT550R for a few reasons: cost, and the fact that they use 360 degree thrust bearings and are ball bearing instead of journal bearing like the T-series that the Sport 500 and 600 are based on...and did I mention cost?

:-)
